Job Description:

Summary:

This position includes the research and evaluation of new sources of supply for the purchase of existing and newly develop products/materials. This includes the review of suppliers’ quotes and negotiation of final price and service terms. The position requires coordination with the Research & Development and Brand Management functions of the company. The Strategic Buyer will be required to release and maintain purchase orders on newly launched or strategic products/materials for daily operations. In addition, this position will negotiate and secure agreements regarding freight spend and MRO purchases.

Duties:

  • Identification / Qualification of New Sources of Supply
    • Works in conjunction with R&D and Quality resources for new products.
    • Jointly responsible for vendor audit and qualification (business risk assessment).
    • Required travel for site visits and evaluation (Travel est. 30%).
    • Responsible for commercial terms negotiation regarding new supply contract.
    • Key contact point for vendor regarding supply issues during first year of product launch.
    • Identifies and evaluates alternate sources of supply for existing product/materials.
  • Vendor Negotiations
    • Execute negotiations strategy on materials required for new product launch.
    • Manages and negotiates freight spend on inbound, outbound and international transfers.
    • Coordinates with Quality regarding resolution of any supply issues, including product non-conformance and on time delivery performance.
  • Inventory Strategy and Tactical Procurement
    • Partners with S&OP team in development of stocking strategies regarding new purchased products/materials.
    • Responsible for tactical procurement for select product/materials, per direction of the Manager of Purchasing and S&OP.
  • Communicate
    • Cross functional communication is key for success in this role.
    • Requires effective communication in a team environment.
    • Will provide information and direction to the Asian supply chain resource.
    • Internal customers include: R&D, Marketing, Quality, Engineering, S&OP, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Finance.

Experience and Skills:

Qualifications:

  • BA or equivalent experience
  • 7-10 years progressive experience in Purchasing, Sourcing or Supply Chain
  • Analytical Thinker
  • APICS Certification a plus
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Should be goal oriented, confident, outgoing, and able to work well under pressure
  • Expected to succeed within a competitive environment.
  • Demonstrate good judgment.
  • Must be able to multi-task
  • Must be able to work independently and demonstrate effective initiative.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stoop, reach, bend, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see, and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as reading handwritten and or typed material and must have the ability to focus.
