Job Description:

Summary:

The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in preparing statements that follow all regulatory and accounting guidelines under the supervision of the Director of Accounting. You will be responsible for identifying and preventing discrepancies and helping set up control systems. This position primarily provides support to the Director of Accounting, with additional financial support to Operations, Sales, Marketing, Human Resources, IT and Executive Leadership. This role is also responsible for all financial, tax and 401k audit requirements.

Duties:

  • Compiles monthly financial statements on a timely basis; compares performance with operating plans and standards. Assists Financial, Planning and Analysis Manager in interpreting the results of operations and ensures financial statements are accurately prepared.
  • Prepares monthly general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Manages Accounts Payable team.
  • Assists Director of Accounting with development and updating of financial policies and procedures.
  • Serves as primary contact for 401K administration - i.e. reporting; questions from Human Resources and ensuring employee/ employer contributions are submitted.
  • Evaluates nexus and prepares sales/use tax returns and Canadian Revenue Agency returns as required by local jurisdiction.
  • Executes accounts payable payments in a cash advantageous manner.
  • Management of payment documents (checks, wire transfers, EFT) to ensure proper documentation exists and files are maintained to be compliant with audit expectations.
  • Works with cost accounting to ensure all inventory and manufacturing costs are accurately stated and accounts are reconciled.
  • Determination and recommendation of continuous improvements for the financial cycles.
  • Prepares schedules required for yearend financial statement audit, 401(k) plan and annual tax review.
  • Sound and current knowledge of GAAP and advises application of such to financial transactions and statements.
  • Manages fixed asset data base/accounting software. Ensures assets are set up properly for book and tax in correct classification and years of service.
  • Approves and audits bi-weekly payroll for data changes and ensures earnings and deductions are set up properly for tax, benefits and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Assists with special projects as required.

Experience and Skills:

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Accounting - CPA required
  • Public accounting firm experience including affiliations with successful manufacturing companies, direct experience with manufacturing firms, or a combination of both.
  • Working knowledge of automated accounting systems and well-developed financial analysis capabilities.
  • Excellent technical skills (GAAP, GAAS and cost accounting).
  • Continuous improvement focused.
  • Extensive experience utilizing Microsoft Office (Excel) and Great Plains or similar ERP system.
  • Sound administrative skills. Well-developed management skills - principles and personnel.
  • Proven ability to recruit, train, and motivate personnel in order to balance staffing strength with profitability and growth.
  • High energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with normal activities.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning abilities.
  • Superior numeric skills.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stoop, reach, bend, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see, and lift up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as reading handwritten and or typed material and must have the ability to focus.
